Meshk Music (participatory Sufi chanting)
Join Roses of Eden, Cansu Durucan, here all the way from Istanbul, & Glastonbury based Ruhiya, to sing and play in a Meshk (Sufi music participatory chanting session). All are welcome!
Drawing on the rich heritage of the Sufi path, we will learn devotional songs by ear, explore the relationship between breath, rhythm and melody, and discover how music can become both a spiritual practice and a shared act of listening. Open to singers, instrumentalists and complete beginners alike, no previous musical training is required—only a willingness to participate with an open heart.
In the Sufi tradition, meshk is the practice of learning directly through attentive listening, repetition and embodied experience. Together we will cultivate this timeless way of learning, allowing music to be absorbed naturally rather than through written notation. Supported by live instruments and collective singing, the workshop invites participants to deepen their listening, strengthen their connection to one another, and experience the unifying power of sacred music.
Miracles Room Location: First floor, Glastonbury Experience Courtyard, 2-4 High Street, Glastonbury BA6 9DU - above the Margaret Kimber shop
